, (1815-1878), moved to Chicago from Rome, NY in 1836 and practiced law, becoming City Attorney, 1837-1839; Served in the Illinois State Senate, 1840-1860; Was a political adviser to and friend of Abraham Lincoln in the 1850's;
Delegate to the 1860 National Republican Convention at Chicago, and as head of the Illinois delegation, he nominated Abraham Lincoln for President;
On March 6, 1861, Lincoln appointed Judd as
U.S. Minister to the Kingdom of Prussia
, and Judd served 1861-1865; In U.S.
Congress
, 1867-1871; Appointed by President Grant as Collector of the Port of Chicago in 1872, and he served until his death in 1878.
